TEAM RISP- Twins: 3 for 11 Red Sox: 6 for 18

Shortstop John Valentin had 4 hits and 5 RBI and Aaron Sele whiffed 10 batters
as the Boston Red Sox really laid it on the Minnesota Twins 14 to 4.

It was a good day for Boston thanks to Valentin. He doubled bringing in a run
in the 1st inning, laced a base-hit in the 6th inning, delivered a single
bringing in two baserunners in the 7th inning and doubled scoring two
baserunners in the 8th inning. Boston bats were very productive in the 1st
inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits and the 7th inning which saw them score
5 runs on 5 hits. Overall Boston out-hit Minnesota 20 to 9.

Sele(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 4 runs.
The losing pitcher was Scott Erickson(0-1). Boston knocked him around a bit,
as he gave up 7 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.

When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Sele offered, 'The fan's
really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up
there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy this afternoon - of
course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
