May 5, 1973 - Grote's 10th Inning Single walks off Mets over Houston!
In a hotly contested game, it came down to the bottom of the 10th and Jerry Grote, pinch hitting for Duffy Dyer. Jim Beauchamp, pinch running for Rusty Staub, was perched on 2nd with two outs, when Grote stroked Jimmy Ray's breaking ball into right center, scoring Beauchamp with the winning run!
Felix Millan went 3 for 5 to lead a scrappy Met offense looking to get back to .500 in a year they hope to contend.
The Astros, meanwhile, have fallen back to earth and now stand at 14-14 after a hot start.
Pat Hennigan got the win for New York, while Ray falls to 0-3 for Houston.
