Atlanta scored a pair in the top of the first on Darrell Evans's 5th homer of the season, but Philadelphia answered with 3 in the bottom half, capped by Mike Schmidt's rbi single. That would be all the scoring the Philly crowd would see.
The hometown fanatics held on for the 3-2 victory behind Dick Ruthven's strong 8 and Mac Scarce's 5th save. Willie Montanez had three hits to raise his average to .338.
