May 2, 1973- Seaver Ks 14, wins 4th in a nail-biter vs Reds.
Tom Seaver had a 3 hit shutout through eight, but doubles by Rose and Morgan and a sac fly by Bench in the top of the ninth gave the Reds a 2-1 lead.
Fortunately for Tom Terrific, the Mets bats were up to the challenge.
With Pedro Borbon on to close the game out for Cincy, Rusty Staub singled to lead off the inning. Theodore came in to pinch run for Staub and Jim Beauchamp singled him to scoring position. Jim Fregosi flew out to deep center, and Theodore tagged and advanced to third with the tying run.
Jerry Grote singled Theodore home to tie the game at 2-2!
Borbon struck out Harrelson for the second out, but then lost Wayne Garrett, pinch hitting for Seaver, on a close 3-2 pitch to load the bases.
Borbon got Ed Kranepool in the hole 1-2, but Kranepool laid off two close pitches to bring the count full.
Borbon reached back for a little extra, and the pitch was up - Kranepool wiseley laid off to draw the walk-off RBI base on balls!
Seaver got the well-deserved win, and Borbon continued his early season struggles.
