April 20, 1948 - Detroit (Newhouser) at Chicago (Haynes)
Hal Newhouser had good stuff for the first six innings, allowing just 1 run, and even though he struggled to close things out, eventually handing it off to the bullpen, the Tiger offense put plenty on the board to handle their business on Opening Day.
George Kell led the attack with 3 hits, 3 runs score, a run batted in and a stolen base, while Bill Swift and Jimmy Outlaw each drove in a pair.
White Sox pitching allowed 11 walks and 13 hits to keep the carousel of Detroit baserunners moving.
