April 20, 1948 - Brooklyn (Barney) at New York (Jansen)

Opening Day in New York and it was the visitors who prevailed thanks to the clutch hitting of Jackie Robinson, whose 2-run home run in the third provided the early spark. Robinson added another rbi on a seventh inning single to lead a nine hit, seven run Dodger attack.

Rex Barney was solid until the 8th, when fatigue led to 5 Giant runs, capped by Walker Cooper's 3-run home run to make it a 1-run ballgame.

Brooklyn manufactured an insurance run in the top of the 9th, and Paul Minner secured the win and his first save with a scoreless bottom half.
