April 19, 1948 - Opening Day - Philadelphia (Marchildon) at Boston (Dobbs) (Game 1 of a doubleheader)

Trailing 5-1 heading into the seventh inning stretch, Philly had a comfortable 5-2 lead and Marchildon was cruising along. The home team had other ideas, though.

The Red Sox plated one in the seventh off Marchildon and two in the eighth off Bubba Harris to tie the game.

Bottom of the ninth, Harris retired Doerr and Mele before Birdie Tebbets singled. Wally Moses came in to pinch hit and smacked a high arcing ball towards left center. The ball bounced high off the Green Monster and over the heads of the pursuing fielders. Tebbets scored all the way from first, well ahead of the throw, and Moses was credited with a walk-off triple!

Moses was the hero, but Stan Spence stole Player of the Game honors with two hits and three driven in to pace the Red Sox offense.
